Jensen Elias Barrett was born on Christmas night at 11:05pm. I am overjoyed that he is here, and the love I have for my son grows each day. While giving birth to a child was far more intense than I ever could have prepared for, I am amazed that God gave me the strength to get through it. Going through pregnancy and giving birth was such a humbling experience. I’ve never felt more weak in my entire life, and it just reminded me how much I need God. Parenting a newborn, no matter how much babysitting practice you have in your past, is so sacrificial and challenging. This child is dependent on me for nutrition, life, and love–I am dependent on God for the same things.
For those of you that may not know, Zach had to leave for a deployment one week after Jensen was born with the National Guard. While this season was already going to be difficult, this adds a new complexity to our lives. I am committed to sending updates to Zach about our little man. He better be ready for all the photos coming his way. I know we will get through this just fine–just like I got through labor. I am so excited for all that this year will bring.
To my sweet son, I love you so much. I’ve dreamed of you for years, and you are more perfect than I could have ever imagined. I promise to raise you with all the love I can give and cling to our Lord when I fail you. I am praying for you every day, and I can’t wait to see the man you become one day. For now, I am soaking up every moment and milestone with you in any way I can.
