Being a Mom is Heart Work

Families, Seniors, + More

When I was thinking about what to write about being a new mom, there was this one phrase that specifically stood out to me. “Being a mom is heart work.” Cliche—I know. It’s so true though.

No one really explains the emotional rollercoaster it is to have a newborn. You’re so overjoyed, exhausted, excited, overwhelmed, and awestruck that the hospital let you leave with this little baby. Can you even feel that many emotions at once? The answer is yes and many more with those postpartum hormones. I’m only speaking from my experience of having my daughter.

That first week, I realized I lack control over my daughters life, which led me to be dependent on the one person who does have control over her life. God is her creator, and he will be the one that sustains her. Remember that God gives just enough grace to get you through each day.

As a new mom you can exhaust yourself with worry. Worrying over every noise your baby makes in the bassinet next to you, worrying over feeding schedules to get her to sleep better at night, worrying over her eating enough, or if she’s peeing or pooping enough. Don’t worry! The newborn stage is so sweet and goes by so fast. Enjoy those newborn snuggles. Take the time to just look at her in awe of what God has made. There is nothing more precious than that sweet little baby of yours. It’s now been 1 month since I’ve had my daughter Jane. I have never felt more blessed in my life. Being a mom is such a high calling and I can’t believe I get to be one.

That is so true. I remember my experience with my first baby boy Stevie,, we got home from hospital a week after his birth, in them days yu were in hosp. For a week! Well we were ready to turn in for the night and baby started to cry. Harder and harder I walked him in my arms his Dad did the same but he was just not stopping. We were all crying thinking he was hurting somewhere. Ready to take him to hospital I made him a bottle and starting to feed him and at that moment he was devouring that baby formula. He felt asleep right away. I was so relieved he slept all night. Thank you Lord for my experience.
