One of my favorite things about being pregnant was getting the nursery ready for baby girl. I wasn’t sure what theme or what look I was going for but I knew one thing—I wanted it to be bright and white. 

First things first, white paint! My sisters-in-law came over to help me paint. Honestly, they did most of the work because being pregnant is exhausting. A couple coats of white paint can really brighten up a room. Then, while in my nesting phase, I woke up one morning and decided I wanted the popcorn ceiling taken off. My sweet husband then spent his day scraping off the popcorn ceiling. My last weeks of pregnancy were during the COVID shutdown, so we kept busy with house projects like this one. Finally, the room is ready to be put together! 

Our spare room has an ugly dark green floor that I knew I wanted to be covered, so I bought this big shaggy rug from someone on Facebook who had it in her nursery. It really made a difference in the feel of the room. After the rug was in the room, Sarah came over and helped me build the crib. We may have had a couple screws left over, but it seems sturdy enough (I’m sure it’s fine…right?). The crib was gifted to us by a sweet church friend (thank you Becky!), and my mother-in-law bought us the cutest woodland themed bedding.  This became the theme of the room. 

Sarah had a friend of mine make some prints for the room. I’ve had multiple prints made by Emma, and every one of them was amazing!  Definitely check out her business Lemon Lettering Studio on Instagram and her shop on Etsy. Now, it’s time for the hardest part of the room, putting together the IKEA dresser. I think IKEA thrives on making their furniture a puzzle. Two of my sisters-in-law, Connie and Sarah, got me this amazing white dresser, and it’s my favorite piece of furniture! (even though it took ages to put together) 

Next, I knew I wanted to get a glider chair, but I didn’t want to spend the money for one. I was looking on Facebook marketplace and came across one for $80! With a foot rest too! After the glider, the last furniture piece to put together was her bookshelf. It’s just a simple white bookshelf gifted by another sweet church friend, but it made a big impact on the room (thank you Karen!). I decided to build these Pinterest-style floating bookshelves which my husband had to fix after I said they were done. I bought the macrame over here crib on amazon and just added a wooden dowel from Home Depot. I also bought the cute accordion wall hanger on amazon. For the first time ever, I bought living plants because they add so much life to the room. 

Once we had the baby shower, it was now time to put it all together. Most of the things in our nursery people bought for us, and the things we bought were covered by the money people gave to us. We are so thankful for our friends, family and church family for blessing us so greatly. I love the way Jane’s nursery turned out—in fact, it’s by far my favorite room in the house. I will forever cherish the memories of getting her room ready. I look forward to the memories I’ll have of her reading, playing, laughing, and singing in this room. I hope Jane likes it just as much as I do.
